- New Releases & Specialty Authors – Half of Publishers Price or Minimums Below
- Paperbacks/Mass Market – Adults/Young Adults – Minimum $5.50; Tweens – Minimum $4.50
- Trade Size – Adults – Minimum $9.50; Young Adults – Minimum $5.50; Tweens – Minimum $4.50
- Hard Covers – Adults – Minimum $12.50; Young Adults – Minimum $10.50; Tweens – Minimum $8.50
- Classics – Minimum $5.50
- Sci-Fi/Fantasy – Minimum $5.50
- Fan Favorites – 1/2 of Publishers Price or Above Minimums
- Manga/Graphic Novels – 1/2 of Publishers Price or Above Minimums

Exchange – In
(Books and puzzles purchased at Helen’s Book Mark)
We give exchange credit for any books and puzzles purchased at Helen’s Book Mark. Books and puzzles not purchased at Helen’s Book Mark we give exchange credit for any that are in good condition and that we can use in stock. The exchange is based on inventory needs which can change daily.
Exchange – In
- Paperbacks, Mass Market, Trade Size – You receive 35% of publishers price as in-store regular credit*
- Paperbacks, Mass Market, Trade Size – Sci-Fi, Westerns, and Classics – You receive 35% of publishers price as in-store specialty credit*
- Hard Covers – You receive 35% of the publishers price for new releases and fan favorites and 35% of the price we mark for resale on all other hard covers.
- Vintage – You receive a % of the price we mark for resale as in-store regular credit.
- *35% credit is given up to $35.00
- *25% credit is given for $35.01 – $100.00
- *10% credit is given for anything over $100.00
- Puzzles – You receive 35% of price we mark for resale
- If there is no publisher’s price on a book you will receive 35% of the price we mark for resale
Exchange – Out
- Paperbacks, Mass Market, Trade Size – We deduct 50% of publisher’s price from your regular credit. You pay $3.50 on the exchange for each mass market and $7.00 on the exchange for trade size.
- Paperbacks, Mass Market, Trade Size – Sci-Fi, Westerns, and Classics – We deduct 50% of publisher’s price from your specialty credit. You pay $3.50 on the exchange for each mass market and $7.00 for trade size.
- New Releases, Specialty Authors, Hard Covers, Vintage – Price as marked, purchase only
- Puzzles – We deduct 50% of the price marked from your puzzle exchange credit and you pay $3.50 per puzzle.
Exchange – In and Out Example
- In: You bring in 10 books with a publishers price of $9.99 each; you will receive a 35% in store credit of $35.00
- Out: You take out 5 books with a publishers price of $9.99 each; we will deduct 50% ($25.00) from your in store exchange credit, so you pay only $3.50 per book + tax. You will also have a $10.00 credit on your account to use for future purchases.
Donate
If you do not want exchange credit we will accept your books as donations. You may bring your donations during store hours Wednesday, Friday & Saturday 9:30 – 5:00. For large donations (over 2 boxes), please call ahead of time to set up an appointment. Please specify if you are looking to get store credit or if it’s a straight donation. Please remember books must be in good condition. if you are unable to bring your books into the store, give us a call at 760.746.6362 to set an appointment for possible book pickup.
Our Donations
Books we can’t use are re-donated to charitable organizations such as Veterans, Ramona Food and Clothes Closet, Salvation Army, and Goodwill. We also donate to senior retirement homes and schools.
Buying Books
We do not buy books. All books accepted are on for the exchange credit program only. No cash is ever given for books brought in.
